Landscripts of Vienna and Seoul 2.0

Project Description

After the successful exhibition at the Biennale of Seoul, the course “Landscripts of Vienna and Seoul” was continued in the next winter semester. A new intensive study of the urban typology of housing, build on the obtained knowledge of the previous semester, with newly set criterias was made. Together with the Guest Professor Seung H-Sang (SDF) and Mladen Jadric (TU) the students work was exhibited in the Donuimun Museum in Seoul.

Landscripts of Vienna and Seoul 2 presents designs for new neighbourhoods inside the Hope Village (Sanggye-Village) in Seoul. The program framework is based on a symbiosis of the two cities best experiences divided in 12 categories: Topographie, Pad, Road, Way of Living, Micro-Economy, Environment, Community, Design, Sustainability, Locality, Workability, Economic Efficiency;

This approach demonstrates that affordable housing is a basic requirement and an essencial ingredient of a just, inclusive and sustainable city of tomorrow. The project comprises strategic and rigorous design positions from a conceptual stage to a developed design proposal based on an in-depth understanding and appreciation of design principles with regard to the selected typology. The new neighbourhood demonstrates a deep respect for the local way of life including social, economic and environmental responsibility.

The high density-low rise neighbourhoods show different layers of buildings and related complex contexts of the contemporary urban conditions, which the City of Seoul could use as a pilot project for future housing models.
